Which appliance brand lasts the longest?
In Toronto we see the strongest reliability track records from Miele, Sub-Zero, Bosch, and Speed Queen (commercial laundry). For mass-market, Whirlpool and Maytag tend to outlive Samsung and LG in long-run service data, though LG fridges have improved significantly. Luxury brands (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking) are engineered for 20+ year service lives — most of our calls on these are for control boards, not mechanical failure.
How long do appliances typically last?
Typical Toronto service lives: fridges 10–15 years, washers and dryers 10–13 years, dishwashers 9–12 years, ovens/stoves 13–18 years, microwaves 7–10 years. Hard water, constant power fluctuations in older neighborhoods, and heavy condo-laundry use can shave 2–3 years off these averages.
When should I DIY vs. call a technician?
DIY is reasonable for: cleaning a dishwasher filter, clearing a dryer lint trap and vent, resetting a GFCI outlet, replacing a fridge water filter, or leveling a washer. Call a tech for anything involving electrical components, refrigerant, gas lines, or disassembly beyond removable panels — these are where DIY attempts either fail or create safety issues.
Is repair or replacement the better choice?
The industry rule: if the repair costs less than 50% of a comparable new unit and the appliance is under 10 years old, repair. Past 10 years, factor in remaining life. We’ll give you an honest quote and tell you if we think replacement is the smarter call — we’d rather you trust us for the next one than squeeze a dying unit.
Do you service all of Toronto?
Yes — Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, Downtown, East York, York, and every neighborhood in between. Our techs route daily across the GTA, so same-day coverage is realistic for most calls booked before 2pm.
