⚠️ Smell gas in your home? Don’t call us first.

Shut off the gas at the meter, leave the home, call Enbridge emergency at 1-866-763-5427. Don’t flip light switches, don’t use your phone inside. Once Enbridge clears the scene, call us for licensed repair.

Why the TSSA G2 license matters

In Ontario, any work on a natural gas appliance legally requires a technician with a valid Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) license — typically G2 (or the broader G1). Licenses are issued by the province after a multi-year apprenticeship and a formal exam.

Most general appliance repair shops in the GTA don’t carry this license. They either refuse gas calls entirely or — worse — service them illegally, which voids your home insurance if something goes wrong. Enbridge and the TSSA have shut down companies for this exact reason.

We carry active G2 certification. You can verify us on the TSSA public registry before we show up. If another Toronto company has offered to service your gas stove or dryer and you’re not sure they’re licensed — ask them to show you their G1/G2 card.

Common gas-appliance symptoms

Burner won’t light

Clogged burner port (easy clean), weak spark module, or failed igniter. Check: does it click at all? If yes, port cleaning. If no, electrical.

Yellow or flickering flame

Improper air-gas mix or partial port blockage. A proper blue-flame repair is quick, but don’t run a yellow flame — it produces carbon monoxide.

Faint gas smell near the appliance

Loose connection, worn regulator seal, or flex-line fitting. Schedule licensed service the same day. Strong smell? See the emergency notice above.

Pilot light won’t stay lit

Failing thermocouple. Straightforward replacement on older appliances. Most newer units use electronic ignition instead.

Igniter clicks but won’t light

Gas flow issue — either the safety valve isn’t opening or the supply line is restricted. G2 diagnosis required.

Inconsistent flame or flame size

Regulator drift or orifice clog. We clean and re-verify output pressure against the appliance’s rating plate.

Gas dryer won’t heat

Valve coils (most common), igniter, or flame sensor. We carry all three on the van.

Oven burns food unevenly

Thermocouple or temperature sensor drift. We test the actual chamber temperature against the set point.

Gas appliance repair cost

Gas repairs are priced case-by-case after on-site diagnosis by a TSSA G2 licensed technician. Here’s how it works.

1

Call and book a visit

Tell us the appliance, the symptom, and your fuel type (natural gas or propane). We’ll lock in a same-day or next-day window with a G2-licensed tech.

2

On-site diagnostic ($89 flat)

A TSSA G2 licensed tech inspects the appliance, checks for leaks, identifies the fault, and confirms the parts needed. Safety checks come first — always.

3

Upfront, no-pressure quote

You get an exact, all-in repair price before any work begins. If we find anything unsafe that needs immediate shut-down, we’ll explain why and what your options are.

4

Diagnostic credited to the repair

Approve the quote and the $89 diagnostic comes off your final bill. Decide to pass and you only pay the $89 — no obligation either way.

Every gas appliance and fault is different. That’s why we quote case-by-case after a hands-on safety check, not before.

Gas repair FAQ

Is my home insurance valid if an unlicensed tech did gas work?

Generally no. If a gas-related incident (fire, CO leak, explosion) is traced back to unlicensed work on your property, most Ontario home-insurance policies deny the claim. It’s worth asking to see the TSSA card before anyone touches a gas appliance in your home.

Difference between G1, G2, and G3?

G3 = trainee level, limited to simple work under supervision. G2 = journeyman, covers appliances, piping up to 400K BTU/h. G1 = full journeyman, no BTU limit, all gas work. For residential appliance repair, G2 is the standard and what we hold.

How long does G2 certification take?

Minimum 2 years of documented supervised work plus passing the TSSA G2 exam. Most techs spend 3–5 years in the field before sitting the test. It’s not a weekend certification.

Can you service gas BBQ lines or fireplaces?

We service indoor gas appliance connections (stoves, ovens, dryers). For outdoor BBQ line installs and gas fireplace service, we’ll refer you to a dedicated gas-fitter specialist. Our focus is appliance repair.

Do you do pre-sale safety inspections?

Yes — home sellers sometimes need a TSSA-documented gas safety check before closing. Flat $140, takes about an hour, includes a written report.
